Sustainability

As a volunteer's tenure comes to a close, both the organization and the volunteer typically begin to wonder how they can ensure that the work that has been done will be sustainable i.e. have a lasting impact and/or be carried on by others. For example, if you have unique skills that others in the organization do not have, then you certainly want to think about how you can transfer these skills to others. In this way you can make a much longer lasting contribution to the organization and ensure that the work you have done will be continued. You may want to think about conducting training for others. Over the course of your stay you can develop an outline of a training module as you learn more about what the organization needs, about the culture, appropriate teaching/training methods etc.
