About Trekking

If you want to do some touring or trekking while you are in Nepal (and who doesn’t?) you may like to contact the school first. We can organize guides from a local reputable trekking agency for about $US15 – 25 per day (excluding transportation costs, national park fees and trekking permits). Short tours, of 1 – 3 days can be arranged from Thimi, or longer treks of up to one month from Kathmandu. For all trekking we advise you to take a local guide for your safety.

In less than a day you can walk from Thimi through farm land to the world heritage listed temple of Changu Narayan. Alternatively you can catch a bus to Nagarkot and walk down a beautiful mountain trail  to Changu Narayan, then catch a bus back to Thimi. You can also catch a bus to Dhulikhel, walk approximately 3 hours with spectacular scenery to the temple of Namo Buddha, then catch a bus back to Thimi. With a little more time you can spend a night in Nagarkot and enjoy the spectacular sunset and sunrise over the whole Himalayan snow peaks, from the Annapurna, Ganesh Himal, Langtang and even Everest. There are many other options for short term trekking from Thimi.

The best time to go trekking is at the start of the dry season in October and November when visibility is excellent. December and January are also good trekking months but it can be very cold at higher altitudes. The weather is warmer at the end of the dry season in February to April but the visibility is not as good. April to September is hot and wet and not recommended as good trekking weather.
