Program

The volunteer opportunities are in areas such as teaching English and crafts, community health programmes, administration programmes in local government and businesses plus many more. Your placement will be tailored according to your individual needs and interests.  In most instances, volunteers will be placed with local families close to your workplace. However, if this is not suitable, alternate accommodation can be arranged in a room with cooking facilities shared toilet and bathroom.  The cost of renting this type of accommodation will be paid by the volunteer.

Teaching English and Crafts

Volunteers will be required to teach conversational English to Nepali students and may also be required to take students on excursions to use and practice their English. Craft classes are also a successful way to teach English in a less structured class situation. Volunteers will teach for about 2 to 3 hours each day for five or six days a week (Saturday is usually the only day off). They may also be involved in teaching in clubs or groups such as youth clubs for informal education. School children will be 7 to 15 years of age and have a basic to good level of English. Volunteers for this program may also be engaged to help the school teachers with teaching practices and conversational English to enable them to teach English in the future.

Community Health

Community Health programs are available through the Bhaktapur Hospital and various clinics in the Kathmandu Valley. The volunteers will work for about 2 to 3 hours each day for five or six days a week (Saturday is usually the only day off). Volunteers will also be involved in sharing their ideas, skills and knowledge with local NGOs on health issues. You may also provide first aid information to people in the area. We prefer health professionals such as doctors, nurses, medical students, physiotherapists and optometrists for this program however, we do accept others with some medical or health experience.

Administration and Computing

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in another culture and will also be involved in sharing their ideas, skills and knowledge with the teachers and staff. The volunteers will work for about 2 to 3 hours each day for five or six days a week (Saturday is usually the only day off).
